Were there any friendly fire incidents involving American submarines, aircraft carriers, or battleships during World War II or World War I?

Here’s another one:

USS Pompano was mistakenly bombed by aircraft from USS Enterprise but managed to escape.

USS Tang pictured above, was an ace US submarine… until she literally sank herself with a circular running torpedo.

Why do US military soldiers/officers have a chest full of medal ribbons when they probably haven't been in a combat situation? Are the medals for attendance, good behaviour, or long service perhaps?

Oh yeah. These kinds of incidents are quite common even in modern war, let alone back then.
